Statement of Support and Community Resource Announcement
In light of the recent rise in ICE arrests and presence in Ventura County, particularly in Oxnard and Camarillo, we stand in resolute solidarity with all immigrant families and people who may be experiencing fear, uncertainty, and anguish at this time.
We realize that the recent arrests and presence of ICE in the community can undermine our sense of safety, trust, and belonging that everyone deserves in their community. Now more than ever, we must collaborate as neighbors, advocates, and allies to give our community members assistance, correct information, and safety.
Swap Meet Justice is undeterred. Our commitment is to be at the Swap Meet on the last Sunday of every month, rain or shine, no matter what. We are there to be in community, to serve, to learn, to collaborate. In Spanish we say, “hacemos presencia.” In English, we say we are “taking space.” Swap Meet Justice remains steadfast in our commitment to show up, every month for our community, promoting social justice and community empowerment, offering free legal, health, and other family support services, bringing together community members from all backgrounds to foster trust, learning, and support. All consultations and services are completely free and confidential—no income or immigration status is necessary to get assistance.
Our services include immigration and other legal services, health care guidance, and family resources, all of which are intended to help individuals and families navigate difficult times with dignity and fortitude.
Our mission is to advocate with and provide expert professional services to our community in a familiar and safe place: networking service providers, immersing advocates in the community they seek to serve, and raising awareness of resources and opportunities for advocacy for those most impacted. Together, we are building bridges across race, socioeconomic status, immigration status, access to healthcare, and multiple other overlapping identities.
We encourage anyone in need or anyone who simply wants to learn more about their rights and options to attend our events or reach out to the local support agencies and organizations. Together, we can ensure that Ventura County remains a place of hope, safety, and opportunity for all.
